Sign up with NASA to send your name to the Sun

Deadline is April 27. The names will be aboard the JHU APL–built Parker Solar Probe, which launches this summer.

NASA a way to add your name to its hottest mission – to the Sun.
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab–built Parker Solar Probe is set to have a microchip aboard with names of any Earthling who wants to be listed. Submissions are due by April 27.

Designed and built at the Laurel-based center, the probe is set to launch this summer and head for the outermost layer of the Sun’s atmosphere, called the corona. Along with the closest-ever view of our star, scientists are looking to explore the movement of energy, solar wind and what heats the corona.
The probe itself will have to withstand temperatures of 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit so humans will likely want to be there in name only. The chip gives NASA a way to engage the public in science, and keep a safe distance at the same time.
