Apply to join Sandbox Philly: a network of young ‘changemakers’

"We are looking for the storytellers, the dreamers, the believers and the doers. The ones who aren't turned off, but excited by that very sentence."

Two young Philadelphians are launching Sandbox Philly, a local chapter of an international network for entrepreneurs and “changemakers” under 30.

One Brazilian entrepreneur called it “one of the most powerful networking groups” for young entrepreneurs. Sandbox is in more than 34 cities around the world. Its members include tech entrepreneurs, politicians and artists.

Apply by June 15

It sounds a little bit like the civic group Young Involved Philadelphia, except more exclusive and with a global network. Read more about Sandbox, its beginnings and its revenue strategies in this Medium post by the cofounders.

The group of about 15-20 members in Philadelphia will participate in “thematic potlucks, volunteering opportunities, skill sharing, emergency support, local retreats and more,” said Nate Nichols, president of digital strategy for the Impact Hub-based agency Teal Orbit. There are no member fees, though Sandbox’s founders are considering it, Nichols said.

Nichols, of South Kensington, is leading the effort to bring Sandbox to Philadelphia with Jessie Fox, a Francisville-based photographer and designer for digital agency Here’s My Chance, which is also based at Philly’s Impact Hub.

Here’s who should join, Fox says: “We are looking for the storytellers, the dreamers, the believers and the doers. The ones who aren’t turned off, but excited by that very sentence.”
