Samsung is looking to provide a window into government-oriented work on Capitol Hill.
Samsung Electronics America, Inc., the U.S. arm of the electronics giant, is opening a new D.C. space near Eastern Market that will include offices as well as room for events, according to an announcement issued this month.
The new outpost will be located in a 28,512 sq. ft. space in the former Hine School at 700 Pennsylvania Ave., which is being redeveloped by real estate firm Eastbanc. The location is set to open later this year.
It will serve as the headquarters for Samsung’s public affairs team, and also includes room to invite the community in. The “Solutions Center” will have space for events, as well as demos. The goal is to offer room for the company’s leaders to show government reps, policymakers and technologists work in areas such as 5G, mobile solutions and security, among other areas.
“For 40 years, Samsung has invested in U.S. employees, partners and facilities, because engaging customers and innovators is what pushes us forward and drives American technology leadership,” David Steel, Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs for Samsung Electronics America, said in a statement. “This investment in the nation’s capital further solidifies Samsung’s commitment in Washington and in the U.S.
While the big tech brands that open offices in D.C. may not all have technical workers, but signs of impact for the local tech community are starting to emerge.
