Sagoon, a D.C.–founded social platform we reported on in November, will launch its Android app in the Google Play store on January 9.

The company, which allows users to make money through social networking with coupons, gift cards and other incentives, greenlit the move after raising $4.8 million. According to a press release, the company states $3.3 million was raised through equity crowdfunding from 3,000 investors, and $1.5 was raised from private backers.

“We are thrilled to announce the availability of our Sagoon app, and to enable our users around
the globe to connect and share from their favorite Android mobile device,”said Govinda Giri, Sagoon’s founder and CEO, in a statement. “We’ve recognized that current social platforms do not meet the needs of the broader global audience, and we feel confidently that Sagoon will help to fill that void.”

Sagoon features include:

  • My Day, which allows users to create reminders, schedules and to-do lists.
  • Mood Talk, which lets users chat with various moods like “happy,” “sad” and “sick.”
  • Secret, which enables users to operate in an anonymous space and post without their identity being known.

The company, which was founded in 2009, was initially a search engine developed by Giri, a former systems engineer at the Pentagon. The company already has a web platform, of which users are primarily in India, where the company participated in the 2017 Global Entrepreneurship Summit last November.

Sagoon also wants to add ecommerce to its social tools. The startup also plans to add a “social smart card” to its services, which will allow users to receive rewards, that can be used to buy products, offer coupons and discounts for family and friends.
