Rooam, D.C.’s mobile payments app for bars, announced on Tuesday that the company won distinctions in two categories of the 2016 Mobile Star Awards.
The Rooam app, which launched recently at a handful of local bars, allows users to pay bar tabs at participating bars via their mobile phones. It makes it easy to see which bars are having events and it features a way for partiers to find out where their friends are (privacy settings allowing). For all this, it won a “Superstar Award” in the “Mobile Customer Payments” category and a “Rising Star Award” in the “Location-Smart Services” category.
“Our goal is to let users take control of their night, and the Rooam team is very excited to be recognized for its innovation in the mobile payment and location-smart service categories,” CEO Junaid Shams said in a statement.
So what are the Mobile Star Awards?
At 15 years running, the Awards are the longest-running mobile app awards. They’re hosted by Mobile Village, a mobile tech news site based in Florida. According to a press release, winners of the Awards are chosen by MobileVillage.com readers. Other winners of 2016 awards include giant, well-known apps like Instagram and Dropbox, as well as many other smaller players.
We recently tried Rooam on a night out at ChurchKey on 14th Street, and it was a pretty snazzy experience. Moving forward, the company is working to expand the number of locations in which it is available.
