D.C. ranked No. 1 for entrepreneurial talent in the sixth annual Global Talent Competitiveness Index (GTCI). After ranking sixth in the index last year, the District topped the ranking this year due to it talent competitiveness and ability to attract entrepreneurs.

The report was published by INSEAD, the Business School for the World, in partnership with the Adecco Group and Tata Communications. The report focuses on measuring how countries and cities grow, attract and retain talent to understand the global talent competitiveness picture. The report specifically focused on entrepreneurial talent this year and overall it showed that Switzerland, Singapore and the United States continue to lead the world in talent competitiveness.

The report covered 125 national economies and 114 cities from around the world looking at five different pillars: the ability cities have to enable, attract, grow and retain talent, along with an ability to “be global,” CNBC reported. The District ranked in the top 10 in the “enable,” “grow” and “attract” categories while ranking No. 3 in its ability to be global.

Its steady economy, dynamic population, outstanding infrastructure and connectivity, highly-skilled workforce and world class education are all characteristics which contribute to making the city such a talent hub, the companies who created the report said in a statement about the District.
