Your Baltimore Ravens emojis will probably move over the network a little faster than expected this football season. The team is debuting a new multimillion-dollar WiFi system at M&T Bank Stadium this fall.
All told, the Ravens spent $6.5 million on the WiFi system. The new system features 800 antennas and access points inside and outside the stadium. PCM, Inc. built a data center and designed the WiFi coverage. Extreme Networks provided networking software for the system.
“It’s part of a great gameday experience. We recognize that,” Ravens President Dick Cass said of WiFi in a statement.
The team is also hiring WiFi coaches to roam the stadium and help people connect to the free network during games. OK.
New technology is also coming to instant replay on the stadium’s scoreboard. The Ravens will be the first NFL team to use FreeD, which uses 28 cameras to provide a 360-degree view of the field. The Ravens promised a “wow factor,” but we’ll have to wait for gameday to see it.
Here’s a FreeD demo.
