Power Moves: UrbanStems welcomes a new creative director, Accenture names a chief data scientist

D.C.–based online flower delivery company UrbanStems named Lewis Miller, creator of the Flower Flash, as its new creative director earlier this month. Founded in 2014 by Ajay Kori, the company was created after Kori realized the flower delivery system needed a fresh new boost. With this new hire, customers can purchase an original Lewis Miller arrangement for the first time. The new line starting at $45 features Miller’s limited edition flower arrangements.

Miller’s new line is available nationwide on UrbanStems’ website now.

Last month, Arlington, Va.–based Accenture Federal Services, the federal unit of the large consulting and technology company Accenture, named Ian McCulloh as the company’s chief data scientist. McCulloh will focus on advancing analytics tools for federal customers in his new role after previously serving as chief scientist at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. According to his LinkedIn, McCulloh also served in the U.S. Army for 20 years in multiple roles.

This key hire comes after Accenture announced in June that the company has plans to create 1,000 tech jobs in the region over the next two years, Technical.ly DC previously reported. The global consulting giant also unveiled a new “Cyber Fusion Center” in Arlington, Va., which brings together services that can help Accenture clients defend against cyberattacks.

Mark Freeman joined the Vantage Data Centers team this month as vice president of marketing, where he will focus on driving Vantage’s national brand presence and go-to-market strategy, with an early focus on the company’s campus in Northern Virginia. Freeman has more than 20 years of strategic marketing experience in multiple industries and previously worked as the senior director of marketing at DuPont Fabros Technology.

Hybrid cloud management platform CloudBolt appointed Steve Scribner as chief financial officer. Before joining Rockville, Md.–based CloudBolt, Scribner guided companies through rapid growth periods to IPOs and acquisitions. The tech company also welcomes Kaitlin Moran as director of customer success. She will drive strategies for optimizing customer experience. The company raised $23 million in Series A funding earlier this year.

The Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) hired Suneel Cherukuri as the new chief information security officer (CISO) overseeing cybersecurity for the District of Columbia government. Cherukuri has been working with OCTO for 10 years as a contractor and employee, and has over 20 years of experience in large enterprise network environments specializing in cyber security architecture, design, engineering and operations.

Tech-enabled home renovation company Curbio has named Tim Whall, the CEO of home security giant ADT, to its board of directors. Earlier this month, Potomac-based tech company changed its name from MaxSalePrice.com. Whall joined the board a week later. Whall has been serving as ADT’s CEO since mid-2016, and previously was the CEO of Whall Security.
