With the end of the summer comes an annual opportunity for Pittsburgh companies to highlight their growth.

Every August, Inc. publishes a list of 5,000 private companies across the US whose self-reported data reflects substantial growth. When developing the 2023 list, Inc. considered private, for-profit companies based in the US that show impressive growth rates over three years, 2019 to 2022. These companies must have earned a minimum revenue of $100,000 in 2019 and a maximum revenue of $2 million in 2022.

In 2023, a total of 22 Pittsburgh companies ranging from advertising companies to law firms made the list. Software firm Rimsys, which specializes in the development of regulatory information management software for medical device companies, ranked the highest, at 156.

“Being included on this year’s Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies is a tremendous milestone for Rimsys,” founder and CEO James Gianoutsos said in a statement about the ranking. “I created Rimsys to help medical device manufacturers overcome the challenges I experienced in the industry, and our regulatory information management (RIM) platform has increasingly gained the trust of leading medical device manufacturers globally over the past few years. I’m excited to continue our mission of improving global health by accelerating delivery and increasing availability of life-changing medical technologies with the support of our team members, customers, and partners.”

Rimsys also gained local attention in 2021 for a $16 million Series A raise.

The region is home to five other tech-focused 2023 honorees. Magna5, a Coraopolis-based IT and cybersecurity services provider, ranked at 2,437. Net Health, the Strip District-based company that in August 2022 earned FDA breakthrough designation for its Tissue Analytics platform, came in at 4,021. Software companies SoundStack, an audio delivery platform, and Mayvue, a software solutions provider, were ranked 2,471 and 3,924, respectively. Also on the list was software platform Virtual Mgr, ranked at 1,937. (That last company is HQ’d elsewhere, but CEO Anthony Morocco is based in the area.)
