Cory Popp wants you to meet Philadelphia’s makers.
Not strictly technology and design “makers,” as some use the word to denote, but all kinds of small business owners with a side of DIY.
The videographer’s Philly Makers series debuted this week, featuring Anna Hitchens of Cambodian dessert shop Koliyan. Watch it below.
There’s lots of momentum around the idea of Philly makers: This video series launched right after a handful of institutional economic development groups launched PHL: Here for the Making, a maker-focused citywide marketing campaign.
Even though the two efforts are on different sides of the spectrum when it comes to city clout — The PHL Made campaign is run by a handful of fully-staffed legacy organizations, while Popp is making these videos pro-bono and only asking that the video subjects gift him payment — the similarity in the messaging is striking.
One might also argue that a grassroots effort like Popp’s is equally as strong as that of PHL Made because of its on-the-ground reach.
