The Greater Philadelphia Tourism and Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) wants you to venture out of your neighborhood, and it’s hoping Instagram photos, Foursquare check-ins and GPTMC’s blog, Uwishunu, can entice you.
Philly Tech Week events in the Neighborhoods
Of the 100+ events now on the Philly Tech Week calendar, a number are taking place in the neighborhoods outside of Center City that GPTMC is promoting. Here are three:
Internet FAST Picnic at the Porch [4/21, 12pm] — This Sunday check out the Porch at 30th Street in University City. RSVP
Hive76 3d Printing [4/22, 5pm] — Tour this beautiful and bizarre hackerspace in Callowhill. RSVP
N3rd Street Gamer Party [4/27, 5pm] — Use this annual party to visit the Devnuts coworking space in Northern Liberties. RSVP
GPTMC launched its Philadelphia Neighborhoods campaign late last week, highlighting 14 neighborhoods that surround Center City.
The online aspect of the marketing campaign is social media heavy, with aggregated Instagram shots and rankings of local Foursquare check-ins, as well as an interactive map of the featured neighborhoods and links to recent, relevant Uwishunu posts.
Center City marketing firm Neiman built the social media integration tools, while the rest of the site was designed in-house, with help from outside agencies like Old City’s Mighty Engine, said GPTMC spokeswoman Cara Schneider.
GPTMC focused on these neighborhoods because of their proximity to Center City and because of their commercial corridors, said CEO Meryl Levitz in a Q&A. The organization does not plan to highlight any other neighborhoods, at least in this initial phase of the project, which ends March 2014.
