Two biotech startups founded by Penn professors established their headquarters at the University City Science Center‘s business incubator last week, according to a release.

The startups, Innolign Biomedical and Targeted Therapeutics Solutions, are both participants in Penn’s UPstart program, which helps professors create startups. The program currently has 56 active companies, 10 of which have office space outside of Penn.

Innolign Biomedical and Targeted Therapeutics Solutions will join the 45 other companies — four of which are also Penn UPstart companies — in the Science Center’s Port incubator at 3711 Market Street. The other Penn startups are: CytoVas, Cogniznance Biomarkers, Znetics and Graphene Frontiers. The incubator also hosts companies from countries that include Canada, Brazil, Sweden and Russia. Temple University‘s tech tranfer department also has an office in the Port.

Innolign Biomedical, founded by bioengineering professor Christopher Chen, is designing products that help therapeutic tissue regeneration, among other things. The company has been awarded $385,000 in federal grants since September, according to SBIRSource.

Targeted Therapeutic Solutions, founded by medical school professor Vladimir R. Muzykantov, is developing a drug that can reduce the likelihood of stroke. It has been awarded $240,000 in federal grants since September, according to SBIRSource.

Of the 82 faculty members participating in Penn UPstart, 75 percent are medical school professors.
