After snatching their sticks drew national attention last year, MdTA officials are offering carrots to the Bay Bridge ospreys this year.
The birds of prey get their own camera, and their own nest. And, once again, we get a front row seat.

MdTA’s Osprey Cam, which provides an up-close view of an osprey nest on the Bay Bridge, flipped on for the first time Wednesday at noon. Every day, the camera will show the nest from 12:00-12:15 p.m., unless there’s a traffic incident that gets prioritized.
The ospreys will undoubtedly savor their own spot, since they had to fight for it.
Last year, a heroic pair of ospreys repeatedly blocked the view of a traffic camera on the Bay Bridge as they built nests. They also pecked at the camera. Officials kicked out the birds three times before a detente arrived in the form of a wildlife expert’s recommendation to give the ospreys a space of their own.
This year, MdTA rolled out the red carpet: A perch was installed at the first osprey sighting.

That’s all fine and good, but we’re partial to the Chesapeake Conservancy’s Osprey Cam — a serene waterfront perch on the Eastern Shore.

And if that’s not enough, you can always tune in to the falcon cam in downtown Baltimore.
