On Monday, at exactly 9:15 a.m., OraSure Technologies CEO Steve Tang — former head of the University City Science Center — will ring the opening bell at the NASDAQ stock exchange in New York.
The Bethlehem, Pa.-based company, which makes point-of-care diagnostic tests and collection devices, will be part of the time-honored tradition in honor of World AIDS Day (celebrated the first Saturday of December) and the company’s work to help at-risk individuals get tested.
“This year’s World AIDS Day theme, ‘Know Your Status,’ reflects the reality that, according to the World Health Organization, one in four individuals with HIV does not know they are infected,” Tang said. “We must change the awareness paradigm in order to reverse the course of this disease. Key to fighting the disease is knowing your status through frequent testing.”
Thanks to @gatesfoundation, we are able to provide HIV testing kits globally and help those hardest hit. #knowyourstatus #WorldAIDSDay #WAD2018

Community Healthcare Network (CHN), a New York-based network of 15 health centers, conducted on Friday a large-scale testing using OraSure Technologies’ HIV tests. The company said it is also providing “thousands of its HIV testing devices” to community groups in Africa, Asia and Europe.
