Oceaneering International, a multinational engineering firm that provides services and hardware for sea and space, is planning to expand its presence in Hanover.

On Thursday, Gov. Larry Hogan’s office said the company will add 135 full-time jobs and expand office space. It’s part of a plan to grow a workforce in Anne Arundel County that currently includes more than 460 full-time employees. Oceaneering, which is based in Houston, first moved into the area in the early 1990s.

“We are excited to see that a global company like Oceaneering International is expanding right here in Maryland,” Hogan said in a statement. “With several facilities and plans to have 600 full-time workers in the state, the company has shown its dedication to growing Maryland’s business community by providing technologically advanced jobs for our local workforce.”

The Hanover spot is regional HQ for the company’s advanced technologies division, which works with industries like energy, aerospace and commercial theme parks. Underwater products include remotely operated vehicles and production hardware.

The expansion also means additional office space. The company said it is beginning construction late this month to add 24,000 square feet of “mezzanine” space to a facility along Dorsey Road. It’s one of three facilities in the area.

The expansion is being assisted through public funding: The Maryland Department of Commerce is providing a $150,000 loan through its Advantage Maryland program, while Anne Arundel County is providing a $15,000 workforce training grant.
