Earth Starter might bill its Nourishmat as the essential tool for any urban dwellers with a green thumb.
The “garden blanket” allows people to grow vegetables and herbs in confined spaces, and cuts out the time needed to plant a traditional garden. Seeds for 19 different vegetables and herbs come with each kit and are packaged as “seedballs,” an encasement of compost and clay that protects the seeds and helps them grow.
Earth Starter’s two cofounders took $50,000 in additional funding from winning this year’s Cupid’s Cup competition at the University of Maryland. But now the pair is looking to raise $70,000 via Kickstarter campaign to help manufacture and ship more of their Nourishmat kits around the world.
