Wilmington certified public accounting and consulting firm Barbacane, Thornton & Company (BTCPA) launched its annual nonprofit storytelling event in 2017. It was the year the firm underwent a full rebrand, reaching out to the nonprofit community to let it know that the firm remained committed to serving it as well as businesses that serve nonprofits.
Accordingly, the half day of talks and breakout sessions are geared toward the nonprofit sector. This year, with nonprofits struggling through the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic recession, BTCPA is doing what it urges nonprofits to do: adapting its ordinarily in-person event into a virtual event, and shining a light on the financial challenges nonprofits are facing.
This year’s BTCPA nonprofit storytelling event, How to Tell Your Story During a Pandemic, is free, and will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon on Zoom.
Topics, presented by nonprofit financial experts, will include:
- Accounting for Pandemic Funding
- Virtual Fundraising
- Remote Audits
- Combating Fraud in Remote Working Environments
- Internal Controls in a Work from Home World
- Pension Plans Take a Hit
“A lot of our staff are getting calls from the nonprofit community and hearing uncertainty about how to manage the financial changes,” says Pam Baker of BTCPA. “We are helping a lot individually. But at a certain point with calls and reaching out individually, we need to have a broader impact. This allows us to reach a bigger group with the information everyone’s looking for.”
