NextFab’s Artisan Accelerator is focusing on creative startups

Looking to take that Etsy business to the next level? If you make and sell handmade items — and bring in an average of between $100 and $5,000 a month — you’re the kind of local entrepreneur NextFab wants for its Artisan Accelerator, starting Sept. 22.

The eight-week cohort including six to eight entrepreneurs will be a hybrid program, with both virtual and in-person workshops designed specifically for artisans looking to boost their business and marketing knowledge. That means a focus on developing profitable business models, reaching new customers and building sustainable companies.

Those accepted into the program will have access to all NextFab locations — NextFab Wilmington in the West Center City Creative District, plus South Philadelphia and North Philadelphia. It also means access to startup-focused events and workshops, CEO roundtables and feedback sessions, business consulting, and exposure via NextFab’s website. The topics covered include tax strategies for small businesses, IP and legal protection, and basic financial management.

NextFab Wilmington’s facility includes a state-of-the-art woodworking shop, 2D and 3D printing, photography, laser cutting, electronics and software design. It’s boosted local creative businesses such as Kpelle.Designs, Addi Naturals and Linda Celestian. The two Philadelphia locations also include metalworking, jewelry and textiles.

Applications for the fall 2021 cohort close on Aug. 22. And if you’re interested but not ready to apply yet, note that apps will be open in a few months for the spring 2022 cohort.
