Earlier this year, New Castle-based Mishimoto Automotive purchased a MakerBot Replicator Z18 3D printer. And they never looked back.
According to this MakerBot video, the folks over at Mishimoto said the printer saves them approximately six weeks of development time by totally cutting out the need to send their designs to a factory. Not unlike the race cars Mishimoto provides custom parts for, it’s all about speed for the auto parts manufacturer.
Before switching to 3D printing for their prototyping needs, Mishimoto was using cardboard and sheet metal.
“At Mishimoto, five years from now I could see us having a wall of 3D printers,” said Jeremy Godin, Mishimoto’s vice president of products. “It will continue to allow us to get to market faster.”
