The Mill’s big day has finally arrived

Check it out IRL today from 4-8 p.m.

In case you’ve been living under a rock — or have suspected an elaborate, long-running April Fools’ joke — the much-hyped coworking space The Mill is celebrating its grand opening later today, and you’re invited. The governor will even be there.
There are several remarkable things about The Mill, located in downtown Wilmington’s Nemours building:

  • It’s the brainchild of local architect Robert Herrera, the guy who made the whole thing happen
  • It’s been largely a community effort with more than 20 local companies and people somehow involved in getting the coworking space together
  • Without any formal advertising, The Mill’s cap for membership (for its first phase of construction) of 55 people quickly filled up, and there’s now a waiting list for more office space to be created in a second round of construction.

Conference rooms — whose tables (built by kids from the Challenge Program) turn into ping pong tables — are available for booking both for members and non-members, and there are spots available for members to work in the commons space at $45 a month, Herrera said.
One more thing: Check out this virtual tour of The Mill by First Ascent Design’s John Himics. You can click on the offices and see who’ll be working there. The original idea had been to put the word “you” in an empty office, he said, but as we mentioned before, those are at capacity.
