The United States Patent and Trademark Office awarded Maryland startup MEDEX Spot a patent for one piece of its unmanned micro clinic.
According to federal documents, the patent was awarded for an automatic seatback stethoscope system within the clinic. Using robotics, the system allows a health professional to remotely position a stethoscope on a patient’s back.
The company has two additional patents pending for the clinic, which allows primary care to be administered remotely by a health professional in the self-cleaning cabin.
MEDEX Spot CEO Charlie Nahabedian told us earlier this year that the team believes the cabin could become the “Redbox of outpatient services,” positioned in drug stores or primary care clinics. Nahabedian believes the cabins would drive down costs, and make healthcare more accessible.
The company is a member of the Chesapeake Innovation Center in Odenton.
