Musicians are writing to Mark Schoneveld. Not just press-release, listen-to-my-new-song type stuff. They’re writing long, heartfelt, spill-your-guts-type emails. (Sometimes even real, handwritten letters.) And he’s posting them on Medium, complete with photographs and music. A complete multimedia experience, he called it.

Schoneveld, who used to run business development at video startup Poptent, runs a popular indie music blog called YVYNYL. He started back in 2007 and it was one of the first music-focused Tumblrs around, he said.
YVYNYL has 70,000 followers, Schoneveld said, and it features music from all around the world. Musicians send him music hoping that he’ll post it on his blog. But why do they send him personal stuff, too?
He shrugged. “Network effect?”
