Indiez helps build software for tech companies, remotely

Whether it’s a beach in Bali or a mountain in Alaska, imagine having the choice to work from anywhere, manage your own workload, and work whenever you want. One startup is trying to make that possible.

Indiez was created after a solo backpacking trip to Vietnam where Nitesh Agrawal, founder and CEO, met various “digital nomads.” Inspired by the lifestyle of remote work and being able to travel freely, he wanted to create this atmosphere for everyone. Agrawal had been working in the startup space since he was 20 years old and had also done some tech consulting. So, he created a company mixing the two.

Indiez helps customers build a team of tech freelancers to help launch their companies.

“The D.C. area lacks engineers and this affects their growth,” Agrawal told Technical.ly DC. “Startups based out of D.C. should know that they can hire amazingly talented engineers who will work with them remotely.

Indiez has been in business for three years now and Agrawal relocated to Washington this summer, to work out of  coworking space 1776 DC.

The company raised $500,000 in August 2017, Agrawal said, stemming from a meeting with investor Haresh Chawla, a partner at Indian venture firm TrueNorth. Before securing these funds, Agrawal said he wasn’t searching for venture funding or ever planned on participating in pitch rounds.

To keep in touch, the Indiez team does “workations,” where they meet up in a country for a week and work together (and party, Agrawal said). Agrawal said the Indiez team is “expanding crazily” and hiring for multiple positions; the company currently has seven open positions.

“We want to be the agency which will change the way the world thinks about work,” Agrawal said. “How Apple changed products, we want to do the same to work.”

Agrawal says his company has worked with 250 clients to date, with 34 currently active.
