How does technology shape our restaurant-going experience?
We follow restaurants on Twitter and Instagram, check their menus online before visiting and then make reservations via OpenTable. We might even review the restaurant on Yelp after our meal or, hopefully not, confirm our stomachs’ suspicions on HDScores. And that doesn’t even take into account the technology inside the restaurant itself — point of sales systems, those vibrating pager things, etc.
The answer as to what kind of role tech plays in our dining lives seems, increasingly, to be a big one.
On July 14, a General Assembly event will dig into the issue of restaurants and tech and ask: “How do you engage and energize your customers outside of the four walls of your restaurant?”
The panel discussion will feature Krystle Mobayeni, the cofounder and CEO of BentoBox, a company that helps restaurants with their online presence; Tim Ebner, a digital strategist and prolific D.C. food writer; and Michael Katigbak, the senior director of marketing for José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup.
