Falls Church, Va.-based General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) announced that it was awarded an intelligence system support contract from the U.S. Air Force that holds a total estimated value of $217 million.

After 20 years, GDIT will continue its work as the sole network support provider for the Air Force’s distributed common ground system. This is the Air Force’s primary weapon system that has a global communication system that connects multiple intelligence platforms and Department of Defense networks.

The IT unit of the large defense contractor will provide technical support for the weapon system that includes network administration, computer network defense and project management.

“GDIT’s team developed and implemented the initial design for this global network. We will leverage this expertise to maintain current network technology while seamlessly modernizing the Air Force’s global network into a next-generation posture,” Leigh Palmer, head of GDIT’s defense division, said in a statement.

This contract comes after GDIT announced in May that it secured funding to provide AI tech to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Last week, GDIT secured a $2 billion global supply chain contract to continue supporting the U.S. State Department’s global security, engineering and supply chain mission.
