The Fire Works: coworking space launches in West Philly

Coworking has come to West Philadelphia.

From one of the founders of shared artist studio space The Cedar Works comes The Fire Works, a 2,000 square foot space at 50th Street and Baltimore Avenue.

The space officially opened earlier this month, said owner Linford Martin, and has room for 40 coworkers. The space, which used to be West Philly Community Acupuncture, also features a conference room and a small meeting room. Five members at The Cedar Works moved over to The Fire Works to help get it off the ground, Martin said.

Martin opened The Fire Works because he kept hearing from locals who wanted space like it, according to Fire Works member Chad Ostrowski. Ostrowski has the apparent endorsement of Indy Hall cofounder Alex Hillman.

“The owners of The Cedar Works had envisioned the space being used mostly by artists as studio space, and were surprised at the number of inquiries they got from people seeking fast internet and good coworkers instead,” wrote Ostrowski, a developer for Wayne-based PipelineDeals.

The coworking space is on the third floor of a building that houses Dock Street Brewery, coffee shop Satellite Cafe and Firehouse Bicycles.
