Excella will provide AI support to the US Department of Defense

Arlington, Virginia-based Excella has entered into a joint venture with the National Technical Information Service (NTIS) to provide artificial intelligence support to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

Launched in 2002, Excella is an agile tech firm helping organizations transform their ideas into tech solutions. Through this joint venture, Excella and NTIS will help DoD’s Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) adopt AI tech to advance its cyber operations.

“The vast amount of complex data spanning the DoD is rich in value and indispensable to protect U.S. safety and freedom at home and abroad,” said Excella Chief Technology and Innovation Officer Jeff Gallimore in a statement. “Cutting-edge AI applications can help DoD automate and accelerate data-driven decision making to improve department readiness.”

The project will span 10 months, and include other joint venture partners. Excella and NTIS will focus on helping JAIC create a joint common AI framework and sharing platform, increase DoD’s access to smart data, setting up a sophisticated defense infrastructures and building an AI tech model that provides actionable intelligence, per a press release.

“The DoD is making great strides through JAIC and our expertise will help the DoD and its departments leverage AI to advance data modernization efforts, technological capabilities and mission outcomes,” said Gallimore in a statement.

Excella has various partnerships within the national security sector, including initiatives with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the company was recently awarded an analytics contract to help United States Citizenship and Immigration Services with identity fraud. This joint venture comes after Excella also recently announced the spinoff of its internship and apprenticeship efforts into a company called NextUp Solutions Inc.
