As cleanup from the historic floods in Ellicott City continues, it’s looking like business won’t be back to normal in the historic center of the community for quite a while.
Many businesses in the surrounding Baltimore area have stepped up where they can. In Kinglet’s case, that’s space to work. The Baltimore startup, which provides a marketplace for office space listings catered toward other startups, is offering space to Ellicott City businesses for free within two Columbia offices.
“After the floods, it was really a no-brainer,” said Kinglet cofounder Jeff Jacobson. “We have great space nearby that is furnished and ready to go, and had interest from some of our hosts. The Kinglet model is a perfect fit to quickly get these companies back in business.”
There’s space available at construction firm Allen and Sharif, as well as software firm BTS. (Here’s a profile of the latter). The companies are offering free space for 30-45 days.
“Between the two hosts, there is space to handle up to 20 team members across several small companies,” Jacobson said. “There is a combination of private offices, open workspace and some cubicles.”
