Tysons Corner-based IT company DXC Technology has signed an agreement with BMW to support the automobile producer’s driverless car development.
The autonomous vehicles will be developed from BMW’s High Performance D3 platform, which is the program currently supporting the initiative by gathering road data from the global BMW test fleet. DXC Technology specializes in deploying digital solutions to help companies better manage their data. DXC Technology will support the driverless car initiative by using its digital solution, DXC Robotic Drive, to help BMW collect, store and manage vehicle sensor data more quickly, a press release states. With DXC Robotic Drive, engineers can work collaboratively in an on-premise, cloud or hybrid environment.
“DXC will greatly support our commitment to maximizing innovation, which will benefit our customers,” Alejandro Vukotich, senior VP of autonomous driving and driver assistance at BMW Group said in a statement. “With the managed services, we are able to ramp up the solution to support the next stage of the future of BMW Group’s autonomous drive platform.”
DXC Technology said it agreed to push this initiative forward because it has been focused on implementing better autonomous driving research and development by expediting the testing process.
“DXC welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with BMW Group to advance autonomous driving development capabilities,” said Edward Ho, executive VP and general manager of offerings at DXC Technology. “With the platform and tools provided by DXC, BMW engineers are able to significantly accelerate the engineering and testing of autonomous driving algorithms.”
This partnership comes a few months after DXC Technology acquired Denmark-based EG A/S, integrator of Microsoft Dynamics 365, a collection of intelligent business applications, in the Nordic region, Technical.ly DC previously reported.
