Virginia Beach, Va.-based DroneUp announced that it was awarded a multi-state contract for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) services by the Commonwealth of Virginia. DroneUp will use the contract to provide drone services to all state agencies, institutions of higher education and other public sector entities in Virginia.

Founded in 2016, DroneUp is an an end-to-end drone pilot service provider for aerial data collection. The startup is looking to help the growing drone industry by maintaining a network of drone pilots through the its Mission Match app that locates, qualifies and deploys single-pilot or multi-pilot crews according to their client requirements.
The award includes DroneUp providing services for law enforcement support, agriculture and gaming, aerial inspection, mapping data services, and more, a press release states. This multi-state contract is the first of its kind for the drone industry and services under the award are available for use by all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the territories of the United States.
“We appreciate the Commonwealth’s efforts to streamline public sector access to leading-edge UAS services through this award. We look forward to supporting our hardworking state and local agencies both in the Commonwealth and nationwide,” DroneUp CEO Tom Walker said in a statement.
The contract award comes after The Center for Innovative Technology’s CIT GAP Funds invested an undisclosed amount in the startup earlier this year.
