Dogfish Head is about to open its first location outside of Delaware

Florida will soon be the only state outside of Delaware with its own Dogfish Head brewpub and restaurant. The new spot will be open in the Wynwood neighborhood of Miami starting May 21.

Founder and brewer Sam Calagione compared the energy of the Sussex County beach towns where the company has three brewery restaurants, an inn and a distillery to the creative district of Wynwood.

“At Dogfish, everything we do is centered around our exploration of off-centered goodness,” Calagione said in a statement. “Whether it’s our hospitality properties, brewing our beers or distilling our spirits, our ethos remains grounded in creativity and self-expression. That focus, coupled with our brand’s core links to art and music, and the proximity to one of the most robust year-round agriculture communities in the country, made the decision to open a brewpub in Wynwood an easy one to make. The synergies between Dogfish and the neighborhood are undeniable.”

The Wynwood location will have its own distinctively Miami atmosphere, with murals commissioned by local artists and a focus on local ingredients for both brewing and culinary, facilitated by a partnership with the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences.

Brews on tap will include a hazy Starpucker IPA, made with Florida starfruit; rosy sour Madame Roselle, made with locally grown passionfruit; and in a nod to Dogfish Head’s home base, double IPA Mas Hops, made with Delaware malt.

When Dogfish Head merged with Sam Adams brewer Boston Beer Co. in May 2019, Calagione assured Delaware locals that the company’s locations in Rehoboth Beach, Lewes and Milton would remain. During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, in March 2020, the Milton distillery started making CDC-compliant hand sanitizer to help with shortages in the state.

If you’re itching to go out now that COVID-19 restrictions are beginning to ease — but still want to stay in Delaware — Dogfish Head Brewing & Eats in Rehoboth Beach has live music on select Friday and Saturday nights, or you and a couple of friends can make reservations at the Tasting Room at the brewery and distillery in Milton.
