Betamore named the eight startups that will pitch at Venture Pitch Day during Beta City.
The pitch competition is set to kick off the big celebration of Baltimore tech on Sept. 29 at City Garage during Baltimore Innovation Week 2016 presented by 14 West. It’s followed by an evening networking event.
The companies, selected from a pool of applicants after several rounds, are vying for $75,000 in prize money. In the second year, Betamore also pulled in a pair of companies from outside Baltimore, reflecting the nonprofit’s regional aims.
Here are the competing startups:

  • emocha — a Johns Hopkins FastForward-based public health monitoring platform.
  • Fixt — a Fells Point-based startup with an app for mobile device repair.
  • Sickweather — ETC-based startup that scans social networks for disease reports.
  • Sisu Global Healh — an Impact Hub Baltimore-based company focusing on emerging markets whose initial product is a blood autotransfusion device.
  • SnobSwap — a D.C.-based online consignment boutique.
  • Tissue Analytics — a Spark Baltimore-based startup that makes an app to help healthcare professionals measure and assess wounds.
  • TopBox — a Potomac-based developer of cloud-based software that call centers use to help identify customer issues.
  • Workbench — City Garage-based maker education platform.

The startups were evaluated in multiple rounds, including initial screening, demonstration of an MVP that is generating revenue and separate votes from Betamore’s advisory board and a judge’s panel.
The final eight companies got pitch coaching from Jason Tagler of Camden Partners, Lynda Katz Wilner of Successfully Speaking and Henry Mortimer of Mortimer Communications.
An additional 17 startup are set to demo at the event, including Avhana Health, eThink Education, Fusiform, Kinglet, Manta Biofuel, Protenus, Vasoptic Medical and Whitebox.
