Ever been midway through Codecademy’s Introduction to JavaScript lesson and thought, “Screw this, I just wanna play Tetris”?
You’re in luck, then, because University of Maryland computer science major Edwin wants you to have an easier go of learning basic programming syntax with his computer game, “Code Blocks.”
According to his Kickstarter profile, the game began as a class project, but he and classmates are now trying to raise $2,000 to finish developing the game, which includes renting hardware to test the game in different operating systems.

The premise of “Code Blocks” is simple: move falling blocks into interlocking positions, all Tetris-like, by writing proper programming syntax. Sure, there are plenty of free, online and in-person coding courses to take. But if youmess up in “Code Blocks,” at least you got to watch colorful blocks fall with the velocity of a Maryland one-inch-snow blizzard.
The game will be free to download and is scheduled for an August release, and the source code will be available under a GNU General Public License.
