Flexport, an international freight forwarder and logistics platform, announced it opened its 15th global office in Philadelphia this week, citing a growing demand for mid-Atlantic services.
The Center City office, located at 1430 Walnut Street, arrives after the company opened U.S. locations in Atlanta and New York.
Flexport pairs technology with physical logistics infrastructure like planes and warehouses to help their customers move, finance and make decisions about their freight.
The company touted that the new office is about 20 minutes from the Port of Philadelphia, which said earlier this year that it’s seen a 166 percent growth in containers in the last decade.
About eight employees will start at the Center City office this month, but the company sees potential to add more than 100 people to its total staff of about 1,100. The Philadelphia jobs will mostly be in sales, account management and operations and customs, Kaitlyn Glancy the general manager, said.
The office will be lead by Glancy and Ken Fong, senior director of operations.
Glancy previously worked on opening the New York office, and said Philly’s location and access to universities will help the company build up its physical infrastructure and expertise in the mid-Atlantic region.
“With its reach through the Northeast and west to Chicago, PhilaPort’s growing capacity, and a world-class talent pool, the Philadelphia office presents a strategic opportunity that we simply can’t pass up,” Glancy said.
Founded in San Francisco in 2013, Flexport has since grown to 11 offices and four warehouses around the world. In February of this year, it secured $1B in funding led by the SoftBank Vision Fund.
