The Buccini/Pollin Group, owners and developers of much of Wilmington’s real estate — including The DuPont Building, The Nemours Building (home of The Mill and Theatre N), The Residences at Mid-town Park, The 76ers Field House and other properties in Wilmington and the Mid-Atlantic — have broken ground on a new project that’s a bit further south: Virgin Hotel New Orleans.
This will be the seventh Virgin Hotel for the Virgin Group, founded by British business magnate Sir Richard Branson, with other locations in (or coming soon to) Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, Nashville, New York, Las Vegas and Edinburgh.
David Pollin, cofounder and president of BPG, attended a small groundbreaking ceremony in New Orleans, where he tossed a ceremonial shovel of dirt alongside Branson.
Here in Delaware, BPG has a lot going on:
- Food hall DE.CO opened in partnership with Baltimore’s Seawall in April.
- The golf cart taxi startup WilminGo it invested in via a partnership with Horn Entrepreneurship (inspired, according to cofounder and co-president Robert Buccini, by the golf cart taxis in New Orleans) returned for its second season.
- It’s currently seeking a designer for a city mural near The Residences of Mid-Town Park.
No word on whether the Virgin lifestyle brand is coming to Delaware.
