In the third episode of Between Two Founders, the video series featuring conversations with local startup founders from the greater Baltimore region, Host Sean Sutherland speaks with Aaron Chang, founder of Renalert, who recently took home the top prize of $25k at Betamore’s BetaCity Pitch Competition.

Sutherland, Director of Accounts for Kapowza – a local creative agency startup – asks throughout the video about Renalert’s ambitious goal to reduce the nearly 300,000 deaths each year to acute kidney injury which result in about 15% of all cardiac surgeries, his recent trip to Japan’s largest medical tech conference, the Johns Hopkins Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design, and why he needs to change his personal tagline.

Here are Sutherland’s thoughts on this month’s episode:

Aaron and I actually met at a Network After Work event, quiet, unassuming, I was blown away by just how large of an issue AKIs are and have been following Renalert ever since. The technology is there, the company has a really unique founder and origin story, and I was really grateful to get the chance to ask him some goofy questions.

Between Two Founders was filmed and streamed through Facebook Live on Kapowza’s page. If you’re a startup interested in being featured in an upcoming episode, shoot Sean@kapowza.co a note and tell him what makes your startup unique.
