If all Subway sandwich shops in the Baltimore metropolitan region were really stations for the Baltimore city metro system, the area's public transportation network would grow by nearly 140 subway stops.

If all Subway sandwich shops in the Baltimore metropolitan region were really stations for the Baltimore city metro system, the area’s public transportation network would grow by nearly 140 subway stops.
This map by Baltimore resident Chris Nelson, and picked up by The Atlantic Cities, shows just that.

Baltimore city’s metro subway includes just 14 stops right now, so Nelson’s map is something of a funny (and perhaps depressing) thought experiment.
Of course, hackers are gathering this weekend at Betamore for Reinvent Transit, three days of contemplating ways to make this city’s public transportation more efficient and effective, as Technically Baltimore reported.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is scheduled to speak Friday evening before the hackathon kicks off, and representatives from the city’s Department of Transportation will be on hand all weekend.
“We’re looking forward to hearing and seeing the ideas on how technology can help make transportation in Baltimore more efficient,” said department spokeswoman Adrienne Barnes. “We hope [Reinvent Transit] serves as a catalyst for further innovation.”
