The Baltimore Ravens are trading tackles for pitches this spring.
The city’s beloved NFL franchise is putting on a pitch competition during Light City Baltimore, according to a press release. It’s set for April 6 during the SocialLab@Light City conference at Columbus Center. But applications are due much sooner.
Apply by March 6
The Baltimore Ravens Innovation Challenge at Light City is set to draft six local startups to pitch judges that include members of the Ravens staff and the Baltimore tech community. (No word on whether Light City 2016 keynote speaker Ray Lewis will make an appearance.)
The winning prize lands a startup inside M&T Bank Stadium on gameday. The team’s staff will help a company develop a marketing and advertising package that puts the company on digital signage in the stadium, as well as in print materials and at events like training camp. The Ravens take no equity in the winning startup.
It’s open to most startups with revenue of less than $5 million. However, the Ravens already have exclusive deals with beer and financial companies, so those verticals are excluded. The team also has Ravens emojis handled.
Along with allowing football-fan founders to live out their fantasy of getting in front of the team, it sounds like a chance for a consumer-facing startup to get lots of exposure.
