AT&T begins 5G rollout in DC

The telecom giant has plans to offer “5G Evo” in over 400 of its markets by the end of this year.

Wireless industry experts gathered at the White House last week to discuss the future of 5G. Among them was AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson, discussing how the telecom company is transforming its current equipment across the District.

A technology called 5G Evolution, or 5G Evo, is AT&T’s effort to boost mobile broadband speeds. The service is now live in parts of D.C., Stephenson said. This is one of the 239 markets where 5G Evo is already deployed.

“AT&T’s 5G Evolution technology boosts the existing LTE network, priming it for the future of connectivity,” AT&T State President for Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia Denis Dunn said in a press release.
