Art Along the Avenue of Technology: apply to Breadboard’s $160k+ artist in residency program

Breadboard plans to host one artist in residence that will create new media-focused public art installations that engage youth and the broader community.

Breadboard is searching for an artist to explore the intersection of arts and technology along Market Street in University City.

In 1998, that stretch of Market Street west of 30th Street was dubbed the “Avenue of Technology.” As part of Art Along the Avenue of Technology, Breadboard plans to host one artist in residence that will create new media-focused public art installations that engage youth and the broader community. Think Open Air, the voice-controlled light sculpture exhibit, but with more of a community focus.

Find full details here. Submissions must be received by June 21.

The artist, who will have access to NextFab‘s facilities and tools, will receive more than $160,000 to implement the project and must relocate to Philadelphia during the residency.

Art Along the Avenue of Technology is a collaboration between Breadboard and the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority (PRA), as part of the PRA’s public art initiative the Percent for Art Program.
