Accenture Federal Services wins $79M contract from Navy Medicine

Accenture Federal Services (AFS) has landed a contract valued at $79 million with the U.S. Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (Navy Medicine).

Navy Medicine awarded Arlington, Va.-based AFS with the five-year, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract to transform its readiness and healthcare delivery for sailors, marines and their families through health informatics, virtual health and AI initiatives, a press release states. The contract went into effect on July 3 and since then, AFS has already received five task orders from Navy Medicine involving electronic health record modernization and virtual health for some of its departments.

“The scope of the program includes support to the Navy Medicine Headquarters in Arlington, Va., direct support to regional locations in Portsmouth, Va., San Diego, Calif., and Navy MTFs at Lemoore, Calif., Twentynine Palms, Calif., and Camp Pendleton, Calif.,” Jeff Plummer, the AFS lead on this initiative with Navy Medicine, told Technical.ly.

Plummer said AFS submitted a proposal to the Navy in a competitive, open bidding process in order to secure the contract. AFS will use its private-sector healthcare experience to help Navy Medicine become more data and tech driven as it prepares for future conflict.

“Accenture is privileged to support Navy Medicine to deliver on its mission to keep Sailors, Marines and their families Ready, Healthy, and on the job.  We expect to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges facing a medical service HQ during this once in a generation transformation,” Plummer said. “Accenture’s experience and viewpoint are that the application of virtual health and informatics can accelerate this transformation.”

This is the third contract AFS has received from Navy Medicine in the past year. The other two contracts allow AFS to work with Navy Medicine on readiness and health support services and financial and business operations management.

This is another milestone for AFS as it continues to expand its work in AI. The service company recently launched an AI-focused podcast series that focuses on how artificial intelligence will impact the federal government with insight from experts, Technical.ly DC previously reported. AFS also recently secured a position on the intelligent automation/AI (IAAI) contract from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in June.
