Being located just outside the fence of Fort Meade, leaders of the Chesapeake Innovation Center thought there was an opportunity to attract more companies that were focused on data and security
That played out in the Odenton incubator’s startup competition. Eight companies were identified by the incubator as “cyber-related,” meaning they encompass data and network security. The ninth, MEDEX Spot, was already a member and is now having its membership covered by scholarship.
Backed by funding from the Department of Commerce, the CIC Challenge now also fits into Maryland’s overall goal of supporting new cybersecurity businesses that arise from the talent that is already in the area.
“We’re developing a cluster around cyber in support of the Fort,” said CIC Executive Director Michael Tentnowski.
The companies receive a $3,000 scholarship, and access to the incubator’s programming, resources and space.
Here are the winners (edited from descriptions provided by CIC):
- D&A Technical Services: Engineering and detailing services for project completion.
- Decisions Oriented: A provider of engineering and consulting services that enhances the decision making experience.
- Dysrupts, LLC: Makes technology that offers mobile device optimization as an added value available through paid-for services.
- Glacier Security: A provider of secure communication solutions for mobile and wired networks.
- Greytek, LLC: Provider of unique counterintelligence, cyber and security services for classified government contracts and private companies.
- KT-Tech Inc.: Makes technology that offers secure quality audio/video/imagery in low-latency even from low-powered transmitters over highly congested (narrow-bandwidth) communication channels.
- MEDEX Spot: A startup developing telehealth cabins for primary care use in places like supermarkets, pharmacies.
- Monos Labs: Offers computer and software engineering consulting, cyber security consulting and government solutions consulting.
- Ops Tech Alliance: Consulting on cyber and mobile communications security, digital threat assessment software and personal electronic device hardening.
