DC-based organization 2Gether-International (2GI) just launched another constituent accelerator — this time for idea-stage founders with a tech product.
2GI, which aims to facilitate the entrepreneurship of people with disabilities, operates several accelerator programs for founders at various stages. Its latest, Venture Labs, is now accepting applications from new founders looking get their feet off the ground. The eight-week, virtual program for founders with disabilities will be conducted in four phases: think, talk, test and tell. Programming is self-paced, but with a scheduled completion date, live workshops and office hours.
Managing Director Keevin O’Rourke told Technical.ly that this is 2GI’s first idea-stage program. The team members will be looking for applicants with a disability and a strong idea they’re passionate about. They’re particularly on the hunt for tech or tech-enabled ideas with the potential for high growth. However, he also thinks the program could be of value for founders who moved past the idea stage but haven’t raised significant amounts.
“We are really trying to focus on the fact that founders need to have idea validation first and foremost when building their company,” O’Rourke said. “One of the main reasons a startup may fail is because they’ve skipped the validation process. That’s why Venture Labs will focus on this crucial first step to launching a successful company.”
By the end of the course, 2GI said founders should have at least one customer and have access to a so-called Rapid Assumption Test platform to help with product testing, pitching and selling.
Courtney Eason, 2GI’s community and growth manager, said selected founders will access online courses, downloadable content, how-to videos, one-on-one coaching and networking opportunities. The program will culminate in a pitch competition for seed funding, and all founders who complete the program will be approved to apply for 2GI’s advanced accelerator.
Eason said the accelerator is the latest offering to support 2GI’s overall mission, which is to help entrepreneurs see their disabilities as a competitive advantage and support them in their endeavors.
“We want people to make their entrepreneurial dreams a reality,” she said.
