This Week in Jobs: Memorial Day shopping for a shiny new career

And it don’t cost a thang.

(Technical.ly file image)

Editor’s note: Every week we ship an email newsletter featuring the region’s most exciting career opportunities. We’ve lovingly called it This Week in Jobs (aka TWIJ — “twidge.”). Below is this week’s edition. Here’s the last one we published; it’s meant to live in your inbox. Sign up for the newsletter here.

“Looks like you’ve been missing quite a bit of work lately.”
“Well, I wouldn’t say I’ve been missing it, Bob.”
— Office Space

Ready, set …

Brace yourselves. Remove Apple Wallet and PayPal from your phones. Take the deepest breath and prepare for resistance as you stare deeply into the seductive, ocean blue eyes of temptation.

Memorial Day sales are coming.

Before you go nuts for a new Tempurpedic mattress, remember, money can’t buy you love. Well, unless you get a puppy. But it definitely can’t buy you happiness. Hmm, except if you get a fancy Vitamix (trust us).

Forget everything we said. Just be sure to pick up a great career opportunity while you’re out getting everything else. List of the goods are below!

The News

First Round Capital just had an insane payday. Having invested $510,000 into Uber back in 2010, First Round made $2.5 billion after Uber went public last week. Seems like it’s doing something right! The beauty of fishing around First Round’s website is that not only is it hiring at the venture capital firm itself, but it also matches applicants with jobs at the startups within its portfolio.

J.P. Morgan Chase just scooped up InstaMed — a healthcare payment platform — for a cool (rumored) $500 million. Unlike its new owner, which is based in NYC, InstaMed will remain in Philly, so get a move on and scoop up a role at this bustling biz.

Since the role of data scientist is having a moment, take a look at a piece we recently published about “The 4 stages of the data scientist” and see if it’s a position you might be interested in learning more about. If you love it and can’t spend another second not being a data scientist, there’s a role listed below!

The Jobs

First things first, thank you to everyone who took our survey last week! We so appreciate your time and your feedback. To share a little bit about our findings, it’s clear that a large chunk of our loyal readers would like to see more jobs involving data, as well as an almost universal call for more non-technical jobs within the tech sector.

We are going to work very hard to help deliver those jobs to you weekly, as well as work with employers on posting jobs for the many professionals excited to work in the tech industry but outside of engineering! Scout’s honor!

Now, back to our regular programming …

Get yourself all up in some data:

Client specialists!

Analyze this:

Engineers, take a peak:

And because wearing pants is overrated, here are some remote jobs:

Hot Tip!

When applying for jobs, you have to analyze the job description and tailor your resume to align with what employers are seeking.
Also, always save and send as a PDF, with your name fully stated in the file name.
Good example: JoeShmoe_Resume2019.pdf ?
Bad example: Resume85.doc ??

The End

Should your wallets get uncomfortably thin over the long weekend, we wish you only a shoppers high, never buyers remorse. And we wish that you’ll name your puppy after us. “Technical.ly” isn’t that bad a name for a dog, actually. … “Tech,” maybe. … We’ll think on it some more.

See you next week! And happy job hunting.

P.S. Gmail users: If TWIJ is getting sent to your Promotions tab, please take a moment to drag this email to your Primary tab so you’ll never miss out on an opportunity!

34% to our goal! $25,000

Before you go...

To keep our site paywall-free, we’re launching a campaign to raise $25,000 by the end of the year. We believe information about entrepreneurs and tech should be accessible to everyone and your support helps make that happen, because journalism costs money.

Can we count on you? Your contribution to the Technical.ly Journalism Fund is tax-deductible.
