Jobs, pandas and free classes for veterans.

Editor’s note: Every week we ship an email newsletter featuring the region’s most exciting career opportunities. We’ve lovingly called it This Week in Jobs (aka TWIJ — “twidge.”). Below is this week’s edition. Here’s the last one we published; it’s meant to live in your inbox. Sign up for the newsletter here.

Bye Bye, Bei Bei

The National Zoo’s beloved giant panda, and arguably the region’s most famous child, Bei Bei, is headed back to China this month. And through Nov. 18, the zoo is celebrating Bei Bei — and giving the rest of us a chance to say goodbye — with a series of special events. Ask your burning question about bamboo and panda mating habits in Q&As with the panda keepers, watch special public snack times for Bei Bei, and pen your farewells at a temporary postcard station. There will even be free dumplings and hot chocolate for panda watchers on Saturday, Nov. 16, starting at 8:30 a.m., courtesy of the Embassy of China and Airbnb. Aw.

The News

If you’ve had enough of taking orders, U.S. Army veteran Joe Giordano’s Project Opportunity is helping veterans learn what it takes to start and run their own businesses. The free program was launched on Maryland’s Eastern Shore in 2010, and it’s since expanded to Annapolis, Baltimore, Columbia, Glen Burnie, Prince George’s County, Anne Arundel County and Southern Maryland. It offers a broad array of courses led by veterans, from marketing strategies and money management, to navigating the social media minefield.

Clear your morning calendar: D.C. Startup Week is serving eggs and toast with a side of CPMs at a new monthly breakfast series for the region’s startup community. Beginning this Friday, Nov. 15, StartupYourMorning will feature lectures on some of entrepreneur’s most pressing questions —  including this week’s topic, “How To Start Planning For Your Future Exit.” The event is scheduled to run from 10 to 11:30 am at Convene, 575 7th St. NW. Tickets are $20 and go toward supporting D.C. Startup Week and other programming throughout the year.
