One year post-acquisition, Talend’s Philadelphia presence is growing

At the end of 2018, Talend bought Philly-based Stitch. Here's how the last year has gone.

In late 2018, Center City-based Stitch, a spinoff that analytics firm RJMetrics founded in 2017, announced that it had been acquired by Talend, makers of a cloud data integration solution.

The deal was worth $60 million, and the Redwood, California-based company offered jobs to all of Stitch’s 33 employees. Stitch’s CEO and cofounder Jake Stein became SVP of a Stitch business unit within Talend, and its CTO, Chris Merrick, became Talend’s VP of product and engineering.

“The Philadelphia office of Stitch, now the office of Talend, is gonna stay put and we’re going to be hiring a bunch more,” said Stein in 2018.

This week, Merrick checked in with Technical.ly and confirmed that yes, the office has grown significantly, and will continue to do so throughout 2020. At the start of this year, the Philly location had 49 employees, and plans to double its engineering and product team (currently 15 people) this year.

Some of the more recent hires were entry level engineering roles. The company sourced talent from nearby universities, but Merrick said that the company picked up some of Magento‘s team members after the California-based ecommerce company shuttered its Philly office.

The current team in the Philadelphia office represents about 50 of the company’s about 1,240 employees, Merrick said. The company has offices around the world, but Merrick said Philly is the first home of a product and engineering team outside of Europe or Asia.

Moving into this year, Merrick said the Philly office will have some exciting projects, growing beyond Stitch offerings.

“The responsibility of product and engineering is growing beyond what we were doing at Stitch,” Merrick said. “We’re building a team to work on enhancing some of the intelligence and automation throughout Talend’s cloud products.”

Though the office has grown significantly, Merrick said there’s still room to grow and that the company will continue to occupy its Center City space near 13th and Chestnut Streets for the foreseeable future.
