More than 11,000 images from the photo archive of the Afro-American newspaper in Baltimore are now hosted by Getty Images, a product of a partnership with the digitization startup Project Gado.
As Technical.ly Baltimore reported in September 2013, Getty joined forces with the Baltimore-based startup, which has been scanning and digitizing images inside the Afro archives since late 2011. The Gado robot automatically picks up and places photographs on a scanner inside the Afro archives, cutting down drastically on the time it takes to digitize photos by hand.
Right now the husband-wife team behind Project Gado — both of whom are graduates of the Johns Hopkins University — are in San Francisco overseeing the establishment of a Silicon Valley office for the startup.
