PennApps parodies “Lucas Uses Venmo” ad campaign

Founded by Penn grads Andrew Kortina and  Iqram Magdon-Ismail, Venmo has long been one of PennApps’s top sponsors. This year, the student-run college hackathon decided to show the now New York City-based mobile payment company a little love.

The PennApps executive team created a (loving) parody ad campaign called “Alex Goes To PennApps,” which features PennApps organizer Alex Hu. The ads say things like “Alex Says Hi To The NSA.”

The ads are based on Venmo’s “Lucas Uses Venmo” marketing campaign, which sparked controversy among its loyal users.

What did Kortina think of the PennApps spoof ads?

He gave Technical.ly Philly a thumbs up and said they were great.
