Open Data Delaware launches ‘Newark Codes’

The civic-hacking group expands its programming with a new event series in Newark.

You already know Code & Coffee, the Saturday morning coding meetup hosted by Open Data Delaware at the Brandywine Hundred Library. Now meet Newark Codes, a new version in Newark that meets on Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m. from April 11 through May 30.

Like Code & Coffee, Newark Codes is a weekly meeting where community members on all levels of coding experience get together to learn and brush up on technical skills, get creative and meet new people.

University of Delaware graduate students Betsey Suchanic and Eli Turkel will run the event. Suchanic is a Public Administration Fellow working on her master’s; Turkel is a Ph.D. student in public policy and administration.

The launch coincides with Open Data Delaware’s monthlong Data Jam, which kicks off April 7 at UD’s Evans Hall. That event, which features partnerships with DelDOT and the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) and a goal to increase accessibility in Delaware, will be awarding $35,000 in grant money.  Newark Codes is free.
