It’s an olympic year (winter version), and the spirit of the games is spreading around the world.
That extends to the next edition of the Bmore VR meetup, where a competition among “nations” will be staged.
On Feb. 7, the virtual reality–focused meetup is holding an olympics of its own with a series of VR games as the chosen events to conquer in the arena known as City Garage in Port Covington.
Organizer Zoe Nardo said the team behind the meetup at BaltiVirtual was looking to mix things up from the usual “science fair” format of demos. The fact that the kickoff the winter games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, is the same week provided some advantageous timing.
Here’s how it will work: Each team will be tasked with play a game for five minutes per member, getting as many points as they can and then moving onto the next. The teams are encouraged to come up with nation names – real or imagined – and bring some of their own pageantry in the form of uniforms, flags and even anthems.
Nardo said that all are welcome regardless of skill level, and she is still taking game suggestions.
There will also be prizes, and even a ceremonial torch lighting.
